Coast

Walking home from church one Sunday afternoon Megan says,
"Kaleigh, lets go to Mombasa this week"
That is where it all began. The next day I walked to Babus house and asked him how we even get to Mombasa, its like 7 hours away. He said 'let me come and I will book a bus.' The next day we were off. We took a night bus not wanting to waste time. We got to Mombasa at 7 am on the dot. We took a boda boda (motorbike) to our hotel and checked in. The bus ride was well..it was really hard to sleep on so once we got to the hotel I slept for about an hour and a half. Then got up and walked to the beach with Megan. You know we walked out our gate took a right and it was about a 3 minute walk down the road.
The beach looked like a dream. The sand was so white and the water was so clear. Everyone would stop and talk to you, okay maybe I would have been okay with out that, it made a 30 minute walk into 3 hours. Everyone was trying to convince you to buy their thing or go on a snorkeling trip with them.  Beach boys is what we would call them.
(a beach boys that walked with us)
After a good walk down the beach we headed back to the hotel to see what else we wanted to do while we were in Mombasa. That is when we meet Jochen from Germany. What a blessed soul. He lived in Eldoret 2 years ago for 2 years teaching German and he was just back for a holiday and to visit his old students. We asked him what we should do while we were there. He said Old town and Fort Jesus. So off we went. Fort Jesus..I still do not really understand what it is but it has to do something with the Portuguese coming to Kenya and the Kenyans did not like it so they build the building or fort or base what ever it is called as a shape of a person to keep the Portuguese out.
Then Old Town is just an Old Town, nothing really to special. We walked around and looked in all of the little over priced shops. It was a very cute old town.
(all the posters are for the elections that are happening right now)
After that we headed back to our hotel took a shower and watched a movie for the rest of the night.
The next day we headed to the beach again to ask and figure out prices for snorkeling. Then headed back to the hotel and jumped into the swimming pool. Oh my how I LOVE the water. Then we went back to Old Town to get some Hena done from this proper Hindu lady. It was so relaxing and peaceful.
That night we went to Nairobi's Java House and had dinner. Megan had a salad and I got fajitas. YES American food in Kenya..or Mexican food, it was so so good! (It is a good thing that the closest one to us is over an hour away because you know we might frequent that place often.) Then we went back to the hotel showered and watched The Life of PI.
The next morning we woke up and walked to the beach to solidity our snorkeling trip plans. Then we headed back to the hotel to find Jochen. We had breakfast plans with him but we could not find him anywhere. So we ordered breakfast at the hotel got dressed and ate while walking back to go snorkeling for the day. Jochen finally found us on the beach and decided he wanted to go snorkeling with us. Megs and I were so excited. He is so much fun to hang out with! So after the sail was patched up we were on our way to the reef. (we only waited like 45 minutes..good ol' Kenyan time)
while waiting a camel walked by, no worries its totally normal, not
our boat, our beach boy (the one in white shorts) and the captain in the speedo.
Jochen
a spider fish, this was NASTY and like a spider that just lived in the ocean
this picture was taken 30 seconds before I fell and got sea urchin in my toes
an eel
A puffer fish, my first time in real life ever seeing one of these things. It was so amazing!
We just swam around for about 2 hours looking at fish and TONS of sea urchins while getting nice and burnt. Making it a pleasant night. hhaha that's a joke. As soon as we got back to the hotel we got dressed and headed over to Nairob's Java House where we were suppose to eat breakfast with Jochen so he was starving!!

I got a Beef  burrito and Megan and Jochen got fajitas. MM it was so good! Then we went back to the hotel where Megan and I repacked our bags took a shower and then took the bus home. We had a pit stop in a little tiny town in the middle of no where. It reminded us of our baby sister Taleah.
I loved Mombasa. I would go there again in a heart beat!
